On a whim, I ducked in to see the movie, Lovely & Amazing, this afternoon. It was a good film. I’m not sure what kind of distribution it has. I’m guessing it probably isn’t playing at a theater near you. If you can find it though, it’s certainly worth seeking it out. It reminded me of a slightly more hopeful, infinitely easier to watch Todd Solondz film. Solondz, kind of like Gregg Araki, makes these movies that I really, really want to like. They’re just a little … I don’t know, too edgy for me. And, I’m a really edgy guy, so that’s kinda saying something. Lovely & Amazing had plenty of edge, but it seemed to respect the characters more I guess.
One of the previews was for a movie, Secretary, that I hadn’t heard of up until now. That looks like an amazing film. I love James Spader – particularly when he’s being smarmy. I can’t wait for that one to come out.
