I just read through some of my most recent entries (trying to bore myself to sleep – read the post below this one if you care about why).

Not counting this post, I use the word “like” approximately 20 times in just the entries that haven’t archived off my front page.

I don’t think that I use the word “like” that much in actual conversations, but when I’m trying to make my postings sound conversational, that must be a slang-tic that I’ve latched onto (and I see I picked up the idea of having tics from the book Motherless Brooklyn that I just finished reading – good book, and don’t get me started with ending this sentence in a preposition – or the overly long and complex parenthetical).

I need to get better about that. It makes me sound stupid.
