{"id":1122,"date":"2005-08-02T22:04:15","date_gmt":"2005-08-02T22:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raleighnet.org\/wordpress\/?p=1122"},"modified":"2005-08-02T22:04:15","modified_gmt":"2005-08-02T22:04:15","slug":"the-f-number-demystified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gator3134.temp.domains\/~raleigh2\/2005\/08\/02\/the-f-number-demystified\/","title":{"rendered":"The F Number &#8212; Demystified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photospot2004.blogspot.com\/2004\/07\/f-number-demystified.html\">The F Number &#8211; Demystified <\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In any camera that allows you to have control over aperture, the aperture setting is done using what is referred to as F stops. <\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Every newbie, faces some confusions with these F numbers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They don&#8217;t seem to follow a linear series like 1, 2, 3, 4<\/li>\n<li>Notation keeps varying like f\/2.0 or F2.0.<\/li>\n<li>The number is supposed to indicate a value of Aperture but there is no &#8220;A&#8221; in the notation!<\/li>\n<li>Any time there is a discussion about increasing or decreasing aperture, people don&#8217;t use these numbers. They talk about &#8220;stops&#8221;, like move up 1 stop or move down half a stop etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what&#8217;s up with this numbers ? The concept behind these number is not that complicated, but the notations and varying terminology to describe the same thing leaves some room to explain.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You know, I probably learned all this stuff back in my photo journalism class, but it never really sank in, and I never knew where those numbers were coming from.
