I was locked in restaurant jail tonight. Restaurant jail is what I like to call that period when you’re done eating, but you can’t leave because you have to sit there waiting to get/pay your check.

It’s really just awful. You know, I don’t mind waiting for my food. I don’t even mind waiting for a table so much although we’re getting iffy there. However, when I’m done eating, and I no longer have any use for the restaurant and just want to be done and on my way, there is nothing that makes me feel more trapped and annoyed then sitting at that table waiting to get my release papers. Not to overstate this or anything, but it is without a doubt one of the longest, most annoying periods known to man or beast. Oh sure, it’s not quite as bad as say “stair master” time, but it’s not far off either.

When the server brings the food and asks “will there be anything else,” I really have to remember to say yes, I’d like to take care of the check now please. That way, when I’m done eating, I can just slide out of there like, well like something that slides really easily. Boy, with similes like that, can’t you just tell I get paid to write professionally?
