File Sharing: Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Interesting Salon Story about the fact that despite downloads accounting for more than actual record sales, record sales haven’t been impacted. Stan Liebowitz, the subject of the interivew, doesn’t seem to understand how that’s possible. It seems pretty simple to me. Most downloads are listened to once if at all. The fact that you’ll grab it if it’s freely available on the net does NOT mean that in a million years you would ever pay for it. And gee, maybe what all of the file-swappers say is true. Maybe if somebody really likes an artist’s music, then they actually do support that artist by buying the music.

Of course I’m still not buying any music industry product until the record industry stops treating consumers like defacto criminals and fixes their delivery and pricing models.
